What’s the purpose of your face? Khloe Lesson No. 716

Today, as on so many other occasions, while heading to Khloe’s adventure (not really, we were on our way to a shopping spree at Target) Khloe gifted me with a gem. We’re in the car and this young, adventurous, peach of a little grandbaby, looks at me and asks “What’s the purpose of your face?” Seriously Khloe, you’re 3. What kind of a question is that? Honestly, is that even a question, like a real question, I mean does that question exist? I’m guessing she must have heard it somewhere but really, what kind of a question is that. Khloe’s asked me her share of shouldn’t-be-coming-out-of-a-3-year-old-mouth questions in the past but WHAT?? After my initial not-so-shocked shock, I started thinking perhaps, that wasn’t such a bad question after all; perhaps it shouldn’t be an unquestion or one that might not exist (if it didn’t actually exist – it does now).

I thought for a split second if someone had asked her that question before. My answer to the purpose of her face was easy - it represents my why and all that is right with the world; concrete proof to any doubters that God exists; love and sass, passion and compassion, bravery and sensitivity with an ability to make a person feel like the most special person on the planet, like no one else matters with her Dino-to-Fred excitement when she greets her PapPap or I upon our arrival. To me part of the purpose of her face is to teach her old grandma lessons she would have never learned anywhere or from anyone else. I was brave enough to ask her what she thought the purpose of my face was. She didn’t completely grasp so I asked her (again, very bravely) what she saw when she looked at my face. Her response? She just laughed and said “crazy eyes” which I don’t doubt and should have half-expected. Inspite of that, I thought to myself, what a gem this question is. What a great way to get people to think, search, look deep inside. The question if taken literally could force one to examine what other people see when they look at them. What does your face represent? Do you smile at friends and strangers alike? Does your face accurately represent all the love you truly have inside? The question, if taken figuratively, would force us to examine our purpose altogether. I’d like to revise it slightly to ask WHAT’S THE PURPOSE OF YOUR PRESENCE??

Now, I’d like to pass this question on to you. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF YOUR PRESENCE – your presence in this world? Why are you here? What are you going to do with the time God has gifted you with? Praying that, if you already have them, you are living a life which accurately represents what these answers mean to you. I pray as well that if you don’t, this little 3-year-old’s question may prompt you to reexamine, uncover and try to discover what these are.

Finally, you know me and cartoons, heard this other gem yesterday from Eep from The Croods – “We changed the rules, the ones that kept us in the dark.”

ADVENTURE ON!!!
